Custody User Experience Survey

Closes 31 Mar 2026

Opened 18 Nov 2024

Overview

We are committed to ensuring our services are high quality and meet the public’s expectations. One of the ways we do this is by facilitating opportunities for people to give us feedback on our services. This helps us understand what we are getting right, and what we could do better.

Police Scotland’s priorities include ensuring you feel safe in custody. We know being in custody could be a difficult experience and we want to ensure that people’s experiences in custody don’t cause any unnecessary harm.

This survey provides an opportunity for people who have been in custody to provide feedback on this experience. This includes the facilities, your care and welfare, and the support you received.

This survey is delivered for Police Scotland by Progressive Partnership Ltd. This means it is independent and you will remain anonymous. More information is provided when you enter the survey below.

The survey will take about 5 minutes to complete.

Why your views matter

This user experience survey will give us a better understanding of why individuals are in custody, any additional support or referrals required and will build a picture of the experience of custody across Scotland. This will help us to make sure we support people in custody in the best possible way and reduce re-offending in our communities.

Custody is not a punishment, and we have an ethical duty to ensure the welfare of thousands of individuals in our care. Please have your say and tell us about your experience of being in custody.
