Estates Consultation: Port Glasgow

Thank you for your interest and engagement in the Police Scotland estate and changes proposed.

In December 2023 we launched public consultations on the proposed disposal of several police stations, including Port Glasgow.

Since launching the consultation, further work has been undertaken internally to review and consider what our wider estate requirements will be for the future.

We want an estate that enables modern policing, supports the health, safety and wellbeing of our people and the communities we serve and reduces long term operating costs.

In November 2024 the Scottish Police Authority endorsed Police Scotland’s Estates Masterplan, a 10-year estates transformation programme that sets out our strategic intent for each building and most importantly enables us to prioritise that work. Shortly after the Scottish Government indicated that funding would be provided to support its implementation.

The station at Port Glasgow has been vacant for approximately ten years and is not required to support local policing provision in the area. Response officers, those officers who respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents in the area, are based in Greenock police station.

The building has been confirmed for disposal and is currently being marketed for sale.

A copy of the Estates Masterplan document as provided to the SPA Board in November 2024 can be found on the SPA website.
