'Your Place, Your Point' Steering Group (Merkinch & South Kessock): Sign-up Form
Overview
Highland Council, Highland Third Sector Interface, Youth Highland and Police Scotland are working together on an approach called 'Participatory Budgeting'. This will involve local people having a say over how we spend £30,000 in the local area.
The project, called Your Place, Your Point, has been funded by Scottish Government's Whole Family Wellbeing Programme and their Community Empowerment team. It aims to improve local democracy, ensuring that communities are more engaged with decision-making to improve safety and wellbeing.
The project will be running over Spring and Summer 2024 and we are recruiting a Steering Group made up of local people from the community to help. It's important that this group broadly represents the people who live in Merkinch and South Kessock. The Steering Group will also include professionals and volunteers from organisations and services working in the community.
The Steering Group will design many aspects of the project as it moves forward. We want to ensure that Your Place, Your Point is designed with and for local people.
We are looking to recruit around 20 people and the only requirement is that you live or work in Merkinch and South Kessock and have a passion for being involved in your local community. If this sounds like you, please continue with this form.
What would I have to actually do?
We would decide this together! The basic process would be a small number of sessions working together to discuss and agree things between now and the Autumn. These will likely take place online and face to face depending on what you would prefer, and probably last for around an hour each time. You can choose how much you would like to be involved.
What are the next steps?
Representatives from the partners leading the project will work together to review notes of interest from individuals. We need to make sure that people reflect the local area and have a good mix of backgrounds and interests. We will be in touch with everyone who applies to let them know if they have been selected, or not. If you don't get selected, please don't be too disheartened - there are more opportunities to get involved in your local community and we will be happy to connect you with other activities.
We definitely want young people aged 12+ in the local area to take part and we can support you - so please get in touch if you have any questions or worries.
If you decide not to apply?
After reading this information, you may decide not to apply. If this is the case for you, we'd really like you to contact us to tell us why you didn't feel this was for you just now. We are running an independent evaluation of this project and understanding why and why not someone chooses to take part is very important.
I'm interested, but don't want to complete an application
No problem! We understand that sometimes this sort of thing can be off putting. Please call/text us and we can have a chat to find out more. We'd really love to hear from you.
