Estates Consultation: Prestonpans

Closed 20 Sep 2024

Opened 23 Aug 2024

Results updated 24 Feb 2025

Prestonpans police station is approximately two miles (eight mins) from Haddington, the main response hub for the area and the nearest public counter. The property is currently vacant and as such no officers are deployed from the station.

J Division undertook a formal public consultation, closing on 20th September 2024.  The public consultation received 24 responses, 33% of which agreed with the proposed disposal and 67% disagreed.  Despite the station currently being vacant, some residents felt its existence offered a sense of security and the occasional interaction with officers visiting.

Several responses highlighted greater accessibility of the Prestonpans station, with its car park and non-High Street location, when compared to the Tranent station.  It was felt Prestonpans benefits from a police station and whilst not currently offering a safe space to the public, its sale could lose a degree of community engagement.

The consultation report is available below.  To read more see the full article on our website.
