Estates Consultation: North Berwick

North Berwick police station is approximately 10 miles (20 mins) from Haddington, the main response hub for the area and the nearest public counter. 

The property has been underutilised for some time with one community officer posted there and the front counter operating only one day per week.

Following an informal survey carried out by Local Area Commander Benjamin Leathes and his colleagues, it was noted that most use of the front counter related to lost property, reflecting North Berwick's popularity as a seasonal short break holiday destination. Illustrating that the requirement for a permanent front counter is limited. 

J Division undertook a formal public consultation, closing on 20 September 2024. 

The public consultation received 22 responses, 29% of which agreed with the proposed disposal and 57% disagreed.  It was accepted by some that as the office is underutilised, it offers little function towards modern community policing.  Whilst the building remains, its lack of use has already created the perception that it does not represent a contact or safe space.  Others did however still consider its existence to be positive.
