Thank you for your interest and engagement in the Police Scotland estate and changes proposed.

In December 2023, we launched public consultations on the proposed disposal of a number of police stations, including Greenock.

Since launching the consultation, further work has been undertaken internally to review and consider our wider estate requirements.

We want an estate that enables modern policing, supports the health, safety and wellbeing of our people and the communities we serve and reduces long term operating costs.

In November 2024 the Scottish Police Authority endorsed Police Scotland’s Estates Masterplan, a 10-year estates transformation programme that sets out our strategic intent for each building and most importantly enables us to prioritise that work. Shortly after, the Scottish Government indicated that funding would be provided to support its implementation.

We recognise the need for a local policing service for the people of Greenock and its surrounding towns and a police presence in the area will continue. However, as has been communicated previously, the current station is not fit for purpose for modern policing.

Our intention has never been to remove policing from Greenock. We would like to identify a replacement solution for our current station that fulfils our operational requirements.

We are committed to creating an estate that is best for our officers and staff, meets our operational requirements and supports that the communities we serve.

In the meantime, we will continue to make any necessary repairs to the current station in Greenock to ensure it meets health and safety requirements.

A copy of the Estates Masterplan document as provided to the SPA Board in November 2024 can be found on the SPA website.
