Estates Consultation: Oban
Results updated 12 May 2025
Thank you for your interest and engagement in the Police Scotland estate and changes proposed.
In December 2023 we launched public consultations on the proposed disposal of a number of police stations including Oban.
Since launching the consultation, further work has been undertaken internally to review and consider what our wider estate requirements will be for the future.
In November 2024, the Scottish Police Authority endorsed Police Scotland’s Estates Masterplan, a 10-year estates transformation programme that sets out our strategic intent for each building and most importantly enables us to prioritise that work. Shortly after the Scottish Government indicated that funding would be provided to support its implementation.
We want an estate that enables modern policing, supports the health, safety and wellbeing of our people and the communities we serve and reduces long term operating costs.
The current station at Oban is not fit for purpose for modern policing.
Research has already been carried out into potential alternative sites in the town, however, identifying and creating the optimum replacement site will take time. We want to make the best decision that will serve our needs and those of the community for the long term.
At this stage there is no confirmed estates solution for Oban. Our estates team will carry out additional detailed research to identify the best estate solution for the area.
The responses received from our public consultation will assist us during this period.
We are committed to creating an estate that is best for our officers and staff, meets our operational requirements and supports the communities we serve.
In the meantime, until a replacement site is identified, Police Scotland will make any necessary repairs or investment to the current station in Oban to ensure it meets health and safety requirements.
Officers will continue to serve the Oban from the existing station at Albany Street.
Once potential solutions are identified we will engage with local communities again to gather opinion and feedback in advance of any decisions being made.
A copy of the Estates Masterplan document, as provided to the SPA Board in November 2024, can be found on the SPA website.
