Please tell us why you think these are the right or wrong areas of focus?
The areas of focus are relevant and appropriate, but it would be beneficial to have more about rural areas and remoteness in the strategy - both in terms of the challenges in rural areas, but also the opportunities. For example, in relation to technology, in the next 10 years we will be depending more and more on technology. But there are still areas without broadband or mobile coverage. How will the Police cope in these areas? And with reference to career progression, the experience gained working in a remote and rural setting can provide good experience in relation to the broader community response and the ability to work without reinforcement.

Staffing is a key area - with the pressure on budgets and the bulk of costs being in staffing, it will be essential to maintain a highly capable workforce to deal with whatever happens. This is especially important in island areas, when the local force may have to manage a situation until reinforcements can arrive on island. In addition, the lack of officer accommodation is a constraint in some areas and can make recruitment more difficult.
