"Preventative support on high-impact issues like vulnerability and mental health, domestic abuse and drug/alcohol abuse." There would appear to be an obvious need to engage with social, medical and other services to identify vulnerable persons and those who might exploit them. Community involvement should be encouraged, this is not the sole responsibility of the police.

Most people want to feel that they are protected. Redacted textThere are security measures that can improve property protection. Protecting the person is more difficult. Increased technological surveillance may deter. Community involvement is essential if crime is to be made more difficult. Neighbourhood Alert is a good initiative and it could be expanded to include public assistance with live events such as spotting and reporting wanted vehicles, persons etc.

You have to start somewhere, there may be a better model but I can't convince myself of any. As with any process there ought to be feedback loops to facilitate continuous improvement and review but these need to be efficient.

Public confidence in the service is essential, I know that community policing is greatly appreciated where I live. It will be difficult to achieve in deprived areas and must start with children. Inequality is a major barrier.

Workforce

5. The Policing 2026 strategy highlights that we will need to re-shape our organisation with a workforce focussed on having the right skills and capacity to meet future challenges. Do you agree with this approach?

Given the sophistication of crime design and technology employed by criminals police can only respond adequately if they are smarter and better equipped. Police should have the ability to resource expert talent in any discipline if necessary. Contingency funding required from government.

Presentation appears to be rather repetitive, maybe I should have stopped at the summary?

Other views

7. We would welcome any additional views you have on our strategy and how it will affect you, or any other person.

Hopefully improvements will be apparent to all. I would like to see the police responsible for all enforcement. Water Bailiffs employed by fishery boards are conceptually outdated and not publicly accountable, their enforcement role should be taken over by rural community or wildlife officers.
